Pharmacy Practice


Department of Pharmacy Practice (DPP) was established in the year 2011 to evolve the concept of clinical pharmacy through practice and education to focus on the importance of the involvement of practicing pharmacists in patient care. The clinical pharmacy services of the department are accompanied to the Viswabharathi Super speciality Hospital, a 300 bedded hospital which is having years of experience and expertise in providing quality healthcare at an international level.

The Department offers Pharm D (Regular) & Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) programs. The courses are designed to make the students competent as per the global demand in management of patient medication therapy and improve patient outcomes.
The department has established a ‘Drug and Poison Information Centre’ (DIC) to cater the needs of the health care professionals and the patient community. The regular activities of the department in the hospital include ward round participation, patient medication review, identifying and analyzing drug related problems (DRPs), monitoring adverse drug reactions (ADR), providing drug information and counseling at the bed side, etc.
The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to excellence in teaching and service. The Pharm D (Regular) & Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) courses are designed to meet the demand of the health care industry, clinical research organization and to accomplish the responsibilities of the clinical pharmacy services and to ensure ‘Rational Drug Therapy’ by emphasize on components such as Hospital Pharmacy, Community Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapeutics, Clinical Pharmacy, Biostatistics and Research Methodology, Clinical Toxicology, Clinical Research, Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacoeconomics, Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacotherapeutic Drug Monitoring. The students have to perform a project work for six months and undergo one Year internship/residency during the final year in the various major departments in the hospital.
Department is active in arranging lectures by eminent doctors and professors about the importance and new developments in the field of Pharmacy Practice.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is joined with the services provided by Viswabharathi Superspeciality Hospital, a 300 bedded hospital which is having years of experience and expertise in providing quality healthcare at an international level. It has trained and experienced personnels providing a pleasant and absolutely hygienic environment as well as services. The Medical team consists of renowned consultants and surgeons in different specialities like Neurology, Gastroenterology and liver diseases, Nephrology, Urology, paediatrics, Genera medicine, General surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dermatology, ENT and ophthalmology.
Each student is required to maintain the log book of services provided on daily basis and will be signed by a preceptor (Teacher –Practitioner) .They are required to present the cases (SOAP Analysis )on weekly basis under their respective faculty guidance.
Students are also involved in various other activities like Journal club, Drug cognizance and are given an oppurtunity to participate in community Health campaigns in villages around.
